Why Indeed.com is my Favorite Way to Find a Job

When I first moved to New York and was looking for a job, I combed the internet and used every website I could find. Although it was a grueling experience, I learned a lot about job boards that don't really work (Monster) and job websites that are adequate but way too granular (individual company pages), but it also lead me to the best job website of all: Indeed.com.

Why Indeed Great?

Although they're starting to market the platform around New York City, Indeed isn't a globally recognized website. Maybe it's because Monster.com has been around so long or maybe because they're still ramping up, but either way, Indeed is a website more people should know because it essentially works as a job aggregator. Or, more simply, Indeed is Google for job hunting. Those company websites that would take you hours to check individually to find a job? Indeed checks all those sites for you and and puts new listings in an easy-to-use, easy-to-search website saving you a ton of time and introducing you to jobs you otherwise wouldn't find.

Monster and other job websites do allow you to search and browse for jobs, but in order for a job hunter to find an opportunity on one of these portals, the employer has to upload the position to the third party website so that the role is searchable. Indeed actually crawls all of the company websites, third party boards, and random freelance posts to provide you the fullest, most comprehensive job website on the web. Simply put, it takes all of the work out of finding a job listing and gives you more time to actually write your cover letter, update your resume, and apply for the position.

Outside of my first job at Quidsi, I've used Indeed to find both my positions at Bonobos and comiXology. It's unlikely I would have ever found these roles because both are startups that I heard of but not companies I would have consciously sought out. However, I was looking for Marketing Manager positions so when I went on Indeed and started browsing jobs, both roles popped up, and the rest is history.

Here's Some Help To Get Started

Looking for a job is never easy. It's exhausting. It takes a lot of work, and you often feel like their aren't enough jobs out there. I hope with Indeed your hunt becomes a little bit easier, but if you need a little help to get started, here are some introductory Indeed search links based on my most popular blog posts. Best of luck, and if you have any success stories, be sure to shoot me an email or post in the comments!
